The UIC Activity Reporting system is a secure, web-based system designed to collect information on the activities of faculty and academic staff at UIC in order to meet the requirements for state and federal reporting. Access to this system is limited. Information from the effort reporting system is used to complete the Cost Study for the Illinois Board of Higher Education and to satisfy the provisions of federal OMB A-21 reporting guidelines.
Data from the activity reporting system are also used for several other purposes at UIC including course assignment analysis; instructional workload reports; research reports; cost-sharing reports; space analysis reports; and hospital finance reports, among others.

Each department or unit has at least one authorized person who is responsible for data entry in the ARS system. The responsibilities of an academic staff member are distributed across defined activities (Activity Definitions) in order to 'reasonably reflect the activity for which the employee is compensated by the institution.' (OMB Circular A-21)
Training is provided on an individual or group basis. Please contact us if you need to schedule training for yourself or your departments. The materials that are used for training sessions are available for your use at any time on the ARS website. Instructions and Training
